Clean Pet India / Clean Plast have set up collections centers all over India where they collect PET bottles.

These pet bottles are then sorted by colour and polymer identification. After they are sorted the labels and rings are removed. A second sorting is done to make sure all the material is PET only.

 
These bottles are then made to pass through grinders and are then converted into flakes.
These uncleaned flakes are transported to the closest wash line where they are washed.
These washed flakes are then dried and packed into bags and transported to our clients who utilize these flakes

Annexure - I : Sortation Characteristics of Different grades of Bottles/Jars
Sortation Category Comments Neck features Base features
PET Bottles/Jars can hold carbonated or non carbonated liquids The inside of the neck bore will be smooth with no internal grooves The base of the bottle may be flat, petaloid or champagne in design but in every case will have a small white dot(injection point) in the centre of the base
Bottles/Jars have a shiny surface finish The carbonated PET bottles have vertical slots through threads  
Bottles/Jars are transparent    
PET Bottles/Jars do not have handles formed as part of the bottle    
PVC Bottles are non carbonated Inside of neck bore will not be smooth & a groove corresponding to the thread on the outside of the neck will be felt All PVC bottles have an evidence of a pinch line on the bottle base
Bottles/Jars tend to have a duller surface finish when compared to PET bottles   Some bottles may have a circular ring in the centre of the base as well as the pinch line
Bottles/Jars may have handles formed within the bottle shape   This circular ring is much larger & less defined than the smaller dot on PET bottles
PP Bottles are non carbonated Inside of neck bore will not be smooth & a groove corresponding to the thread on the outside of the neck will be felt All PP bottles have an evidence of a pinch line on the bottle base
PP bottles/Jars do not have handles formed as part of the bottle    
HDPE Bottles are used in non carbonated applications typically household chemicals Inside of neck bore will not be smooth & a groove corresponding to the thread on the outside of the neck will be felt All HDPE bottles have an evidence of a pinch line on the bottle base
Bottles may have handles formed within the bottle shape    
Bottles are opaque
